CAN-SPAM checklist for B2B email
Updated October 17, 2026 · 4 min read · Montegra Studios
The CAN-SPAM Act sets rules for commercial email in the United States, including business-to-business email. Unlike Canada's CASL, it doesn't require consent up front, but it does set clear rules for every message.
The checklist
- Don't use false or misleading header information. 'From', 'To' and 'Reply-To' must identify who sent the message.
- Don't use deceptive subject lines.
- Identify the message as an advertisement where required.
- Include a valid physical postal address.
- Tell recipients how to opt out, and make it easy.
- Honour opt-out requests within 10 business days, and don't charge a fee or ask for more than an email address to process them.
- If someone else sends email for you, you are still responsible for following the law.
How Montegra Reach helps
Reach sends from your real address, adds your business name, mailing address and an unsubscribe link to campaign emails, and stops emailing anyone who unsubscribes. You remain responsible for honest content and for who you email.
This isn't legal advice
This checklist is general information. For your situation, see the US Federal Trade Commission's CAN-SPAM guidance or consult a lawyer.
Put it into practice
Montegra Reach sends short sequences from your own mailbox, stops when people reply or unsubscribe, adds your business details to every campaign email, and keeps a consent record on every contact. $0 for 30 days.
